In late July, I had the pleasure of attending Iowa’s Land Improvement Contractors Association 2015 Field Days in Melbourne, Ia. As a kid, I can remember my dad attending LICA meetings, and I spent a lot of my youth working on waterways, so I have always had an interest in this type of landscaping.
While I was checking out all of the improvements the Iowa LICA chapter has made to its 80-acre farm, I had the chance to visit with instructors and students from Hawkeye Community College located in Waterloo, Ia. The school recently launched a Construction Equipment Operations Program, and they are doing some really great things to support the future construction industry.
Being the construction nerd that I am, I couldn’t help but write about it and share it with my friend Greg Sitek at the Associated Construction Publications. The article appears in the October issue of Midwest Contractors, but you can also check it out on Greg’s blog Site-K Construction Zone — right here.
Please take a minute and give it a read, and then ask yourself — what can you and your organization do to support worthwhile organizations like this one?
As anyone who has spent any time in the construction industry knows, it’s a close-knit community, which means it’s all of our responsibilities to promote and encourage positive moment for the future.
